Hi,

My Sibelius v7.0.3 is occasionally playing the wrong pitch when in playback mode. Right now I've got an orchestral-type score where two trumpets should be playing Bb4 and Db5 (non transposed), when they are in fact playing Bb4 and B4. I've tried changing the written notes to Bb4 and D5 in which case Sibelius played them back as written. I've had this problem before in the woodwinds, but just ended up rearranging the voices. At this point I'm getting slightly annoyed.

Has anyone else run into this? Are there solutions?

Edit: I've discovered that changing from Sibelius 7 Lite to Full removes the problem, but my laptop crashes when using the full soundset. Will I have to wait for an update or can I edit something myself?

You can't edit this yourself, but I can send you a replacement .patch file that will take care of the problem. You'll need to replace the corresponding file in /Library/Application Support/Avid/Sibelius Sounds/Sibelius 7 Sounds/Brass.

I'm having the same problem. One Bb trumpet pitch (concert D) is playing back a dissonant 2nd. I have deleted the measures and rewritten the music, but this doesn't fix the problem.

I'm having the same problem with a simple piano piece. Right hand has two octave Eb's and all I get is a C. The same two Eb's later in the same measure play correctly. The right hand of the measure also plays correctly if I REMOVE the left hand (which of course makes the piece less interesting). This one is on Windows 7.

Doodad, what version of Sibelius are you using? Please attach the Sibelius .sib score file in question. Do you have a MIDI keyboard attached to your PC? Try removing it before starting playback.

Sibelius 7 First, v7.1.3 build 78, interfacing with Vienna Instruments. No MIDI or any other peripherals.

The V.I. piano "looks" like it is playing the right notes, but it's not what I'm hearing. Slowing the tempo to the slowest possible, it sounds like the higher Eb of the first Eb octave in the right hand appears to be lowered to the next C.

Doodad, I wonder if you are hearing the audio equivalent of an optical illusion? Maybe the notes in the bass clef (which include a 'C') are beating with the notes in the treble clef to make you think you are hearing a higher-octave 'C'?

Looks like you're right, it's harmonics. I changed the left hand chord in the second beat of the measure to a staccato 16th and I can now hear the octave Eb in the right hand.
