I hope it won't be too long until someone creates a 'Convert Folder of Scores to MusicXML' plugin - that would be handy :-)
Another handy one (for those of us processing folk music) would be 'Convert Folder of Scores to ABC'...

Sib 7.03 includes the Convert Folder of Scores to MusicXML plugin in Batch Processing.

I would imagine it would be complex to write a plugin that would convert Sibelius to ABC, which would be the main issue with creating a batch program to do that. There are programs around that will convert MusicXML to ABC, and that might be a way to accomplish what you are looking for.

Many thanks, Bob :-) Sorry for missing the 'Convert Folder of Scores to MusicXML' plugin - I'm completely new to Sibelius 7. I'd better do at least a few of the tutorials before I bother the forum again ;-)

Hey Bob,
I really love this plugin. Is there a way to override the "Save file dialog" when using this plugin? I am finding that I have to click "no" many times and would prefer if it automatically advanced to the next file without the user being prompted.

My workflow is such that I continually edit educational material I've made for my students (approaching a hundred files), and then I batch export them to MusicXML once a day so that those who don't have Sibelius can still enjoy the latest version of the educational content that I've made for them.

There seems to be a bug that appeared sometime after 7.5.1 that causes this dialog. We see it in the Dolet for Sibelius plug-in too, and I don't know of any way to avoid it in 2018.7.

Please let Avid know that you would like this fixed. The technical problem is that the argument to ManuScript's Sibelius.Close() method is ignored.

Bob, please let me know if I am missing anything.

If you are running 2018.7, the save dialog does not come up if you are processing a folder of scores that were created as of Sib 8.7.2. If the scores were created earlier, opening the score causes a format change, and thus we are getting the save message, even if no explicit changes were made to the score(s).

If this were always a problem, I would expect that running the plugin from Sib 7.5 on a folder of scores created in Sib 6 (which has a different file format than Sib 7.5). But doing that (or even running on a folder of scores created by Sib4) did not bring up that dialog.

In ManuScript, the Close command looks like this:

Close(show dialogs)

Closes the current score or part view; if the current view is the last tab in the current window, the window will
therefore also be closed. If the optional Boolean parameter is True then warning dialogs may be shown about
saving the active score, and if it is False then no warnings are shown (and the score will not be saved).

The Convert to MusicXML plugin, and I gather, Dolet as well, calls Close(False), which should cause the file to not be saved, and not show dialogs.

So I agree (not surprisingly) with Michael's diagnosis. I will try to bring this issue to the Sib developers' attention.
