I hope a gentle plug here for my latest Android application,
Remote Control for Sibelius, is not out of line. If you have been following Daniel's blog for awhile, you are aware of several iPhone/iPad virtual Sibelius keypad and control surface applications. Remote Control for Sibelius is, as far as I know, the only similar application currently available on Android devices.
The 1.0 version is free, but ad-supported, primarily because of its dependency on third party VNC servers running on the PC. My intent is to offer a sexier, ad-free, paid version once the complications of dealing with the popular VNC servers have been addressed.
Please download the app and give it a try. I am especially
interested in your experience if you use a VNC server other than UltraVNC.
thanks Robert I don't think the app is working for mac, because i happen to have the iPad offering for keypad navigation and that works excellently ill read the suggestions though and get back, thanks.
edit: No luck with that, thanks anyway.

I'm hoping that the good folks working on Vine get it going on Lion soon. Then I can test (new mac mini with Lion), and offer OSX (any version) / Vine as a supported configuration.
I'm betting Vine will soon work on Lion. I found an old iBook running 10.2.4 and hope to upgrade it to 10.3 or above so I can run Vine on it. Lion seems to have thrown a monkey wrench into the Mac VNC ecosystem. Hopefully Vine will eventually be a sustainable solution that works across all Mac OS versions.
Awesome! I've been searching all over for something like this. Great work, Mark!
(I've noticed, though, that the button for returning to the first Keypad layout doesn't do what you'd expect it to. Instead, it cycles through all the layouts, just like the forward button below it. Or does that just happen on my system?)
Version 1.1 is now available. Still no Lion support, but there are many UI improvements. If you get an 'application not signed properly' error when you 'update', please try uninstalling and reinstalling. Also, please let me know (use the email dev button) so I can address the issue.
Thanks to all whose Android devices are among the 749 active installs of Remote Control for Sibelius. I hope it is a valued tool in your workflow. One of the frustrations of being an early adopter of Mac OSX Lion, is that Apple broke compatibility with all existing non Apple VNC clients, so my program has been unavailable to Lion users like myself.
The good news is that the folks who work on the very popular open source and free VNC server -- Vine, have a beta available that works like a champ for me on Lion.
To try it, please download Vine Server 4.0 Beta from:
It was a very simple install for me. I used all the default parameters. In particular, Vine uses port 5901 by default instead of 5900. When you set up the Remote Control for Sibelius side of the connection on your Android device, be sure to specify port 5901.
Hi, okay can somebody please walk me through this. On the app it gives 4 boxes.
1.) Label
2.) Password [ ] Retain
3.) IPv4 Address
4.) Port
Now assuming I know nothing about computers how would I go about setting this up. What software do I need to download to my macbook pro 10.7.4 to make this work? If any.
Then how do I go about finding the: Label, Password, IPv4 Address, and Port.
It connects fine to Lion together with Vine Server but the the upper buttons (i.e. to change keypad layout) interferes with some system commands on my Mac. (like show desktop, show all windows etc.)
Any solution for that?

It's good to see the developer on the chat page! I've used it with Snow Leopard's VNC server with no problems. But.... one little request: on Android 2.3.4 (HTC Droid Incredible), the keyboard completely obscures all the inputs (computer name, password, IP address, etc.). A bit frustrating when you're filling in that IP address if you have DHCP like many of us.
But, I have to tell you - the app actually makes using Sibelius with a laptop efficient. Thanks so much!
