Sib. 7.0: Sibelius and Rewire
Posted by Al@in - 12 Aug 03:12PM
Have Sib.7 resolved the problems with Rewire?
On Sib.6 the problem comes back every time with Cubase on Mac 10.6.8

Hi,

I am also trying to use Rewire with Sib 7 and Nuendo 4 but I find it slow and the timing is not quite exactly as the bar slightly de-sync with my host program.

Is there an update of the driver for rewire?

Thanks.

P.S: The trouble seems to do the same thing on both my mac and my PC...

Re-Wire sync working perfectly here. On a Mac Pro OSX 10.6.8, running Digital Performer 7 as the Re-Wire host.

My problem is that every time I hit 'stop' the computer jumps back to Sibelius - not great if I just want to have it humming along in the background playing the orchestral bits while I work on editing the recorded audio.

I'm not sure if this is a Sibelius preference (I can't find anything in preferences) or something on Mac OSX. It didn't do this with Sib6 and that's the only thing I've changed in the meantime.

I'd love to hear a solution if someone has one. Here's hoping I've just set something wrong.

Ok, so it's doing it on one score and not another. More investigation needed, it seems.

Make sure that you have 'Tempo track mode' chosen in Play > Interpretation > Performance.

Yep. Running it in 'Tempo Track' mode. It still jumps back to Sibelius when I hit stop in Digital Performer (space-bar, MIDI key on my keyboard, click with mouse - doesn't make any difference).

Something seems to be triggering 'Spaces' to jump back to the Sibelius Window. I'll keep searching.

FOUND THE SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM!!!

You know what it was?.... Having the keypad visible in Sibelius.

If I close/hide it, it solves the 'switches back to Sibelius on stop' problem. Bizarre. Still not a problem now that I know how to get around it.

Hi,

I freshly install Pro tools 9.0.3 and Sibelius 7 on my mac after a complete reformat on Mac Os X 10.6.8.

On Sibelius 6, there was a file call Install rewire but now there is nothing in Sibelius 7...

My Sibelius instrument rewire doesn't appear on Pro tools so I cannot use them together.

Is there an installer somehwere?

thank you,

You can re-install ReWire 1.7 by downloading it from the Propellerhead web site:

I'm having trouble with Pro Tools 9.0.5/Sibelius 7.0.2 ReWire sync. Whenever I open a Pro Tools session which utilizes Sibelius 7 in ReWire mode, Sibelius shows an error message telling me "The ReWire integration of Sibelius 7 is broken. Do you want to repair it now" giving me the good ole Yes/No options. After I click yes, everything works fine until I quit the programs. Then Sibelius shuts all the open windows but otherwise continues to linger in the background and I have to force quit it. This happens every single time. I updated to ReWire 1.7 and it did nothing. I can run Sibelius 6.2.0 as a ReWire-slave with no problems.

Try exiting Pro Tools and starting Sibelius again. You should be prompted to repair ReWire (if not then open a score then open the Playback Configuration dialog from the dialog launcher in Play/Setup, press 'Audio Engine Options' and then 'Repair').

If you exit Sibelius and re-start Pro Tools then this should fix the problem.

Does it ask you to repair every time you run? Also, is the 'Cleanup' button enabled in the Audio Engine Options dialog? If so then press it, close Sibelius and open Pro Tools again.

It asks me to repair only when I run a Pro Tools session which has Sibelius integrated to it. Sibelius works fine when I run it on its own. The "Cleanup" button is enabled when Sibelius opens as a ReWire-Slave, but not when it runs on its own. I tried the procedure you recommended, but it didn't work.

At last it seems that the problem solved itself. I'm using Sibelius 7 in 32bit mode so that I can utilize my Waves plug-ins. As a test, I opened a Pro Tools/Sibelius 7 session running Sibelius 7 in 64bit mode, but it still gave me the same "Broken ReWire Connection" message. Now we get to the funny part. The next time I opened the very same Pro Tools/Sibelius 7 session running Sibelius in 32bit mode again, everything worked fine. And has ran fine ever since.

Actually it's even more subtle than that. I'll just post the problem that I was having, the same as Cliff's, so that search engines catch it.

If you have Pro Tools and Sibelius running in ReWire more, and you are in ProTools, start playback, then stop playback, focus switches to Sibelius.

I thought Cliff had caught the problem, which he has, sort of. He says that if the Keypad is visible in Sibelius, then you get this problem, if not, no problem. I thought, good, problem solved, except it's a nuisance to hide the keypad, if you need, er, the keypad.

So here's the thing. In Sibelius (7) go to Preferences, Score Position. Under the 'During Play and Flexi-Time' section UNCHECK 'Hide unnecessary tool Windows' option. That seems to solve it here. You can ReWire PT and Sib together, and have the Keypad Window up. And if you stop/start from Pro Tools you stay in ProTools.

Actually I tried the same thing with the Ideas window open with the 'Hide unnecessary tool Windows' checked. And DIDN'T have the problem. The Ideas windows being one of the windows that does get hidden during playback if that options selected.

It looks like it's a bug. Something like the keypad getting hidden on playback, playback starts, that sends some sort of message to the OS to switch focus. Minorish bug, and pretty get roundable for the vast majority of users, but maybe still worth passing on to Sibelius, however I do that.

Mike.

Hi.
I have the same problem. Rewire or Sibelius doesn´t show up in pro tools under the instruments folder.
I have downloaded the last propellerhead rewire plug, reinstalled Sibelius 7.1.3, deleted the bundles described here: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/troubleshooting/en362399?popup=true&NewLang=en&DocType=1078&q=rewire&site=kbase&filter=0&ProductCategory=Sibelius&search=Search
I have also repaired the settings in Play/audio engine.
Nothing works.
Please help!

Same problem here with Nuendo 5.5 and Sib 7 - not showing under devices in N5. I only just entered the world of Sibelius, is rewire a 'work in progress' ?

Best

Well I think my Sib 7 is 64bit, doesn't actually say 64bit or 32 bit - it was the only installer I saw when I traded up from Sib First
Cheers,
Mike
