Hi,

I am using the Sibelius player (automatic) for score playback.

I have insereted a VST distortion effect into effects bus 1 in the audio set-up page.

I know how to send/mix the sibelius player into the effects bus 1, but how do I add just one cello (out of an orchestral score) to the effects bus?

I want to add distortion to 1 violin, 1 cello, and 1 harp, but no other instruments in the orchestral score.

Hi Leif

Note there is only one available instance of Sibelius Player, but any installed VST or AU instruments are available here, and you can have multiple instances of these.

You can do this with Virtual Instrument Strips. Go into Play>Playback Devices and create a NEW Playback Configuration. As you Activate Virtual Devices by moving them from the left column into the right, they become Virtual Instrument Strips in the Mixer.

You just need to run your three instruments through this new virtual instrument.

Using Effects Bus 1 in the Playback Devices > Effects page (not master effects), choose your distortion plugin.

Now go to the mixer and specify that 1 Violin, 1 Cello and 1 Harp are all manually assigned to your newly created Virtual Instrument. Click the VI button at the top of the mixer to view the Virtual Instrument Strip for this VI if it is not already visible. Turn up FX1 (Bus 1) send on that vi to taste.

As long as other instruments are not allocated to this same virtual instrument with FX1 active, you will only hear the distortion on the 3 selected instruments.

If you want even more control, you can create a separate Virtual Instrument Strip for each of the three instruments, and send different levels or effects to each.
