Sib. 6.2: Garritan world music installed but Sib not finding as an option
Posted by Peter Hurford - 16 Dec 09:57AM
I have downloaded and installed Garrittan world music to add to the Garritan personel orchestrsa I have been using for some months. I have 3 iterations of Garritan loaded in the playback devices panel (two for GPO4 and 1 for World Music)but the drop down box for sound set is not showing the world music only GPO4, Aria and Garrittan JAB3.0 as options. If I ignore this and use the mixer in Sibelius to show Aria player and manually select the instrument from the world music soundset it selects and runs the instrument (with what sounds like excessive portamento)even when I close the Airia window. It doesn't however retain this setting when Sibelius is shut down and restarted. It also shows nothing in the preferd sondset config for any world instruments. Do I need to set up a manuall config?????
I am using an Avid M audio sound card on an intel i7 hex core machine running windows 64 ultimate.

I'm afraid there's currently no World Music sound set available, though we hope to have one available soon.

I'm in exactly the same position as Peter Hurford so I do hope Sibelius produces the World Music sound set very soon.

Also, I think that Garritan & Sibelius should produce some kind of 'up-front' notification that the Garritan World Music does not work properly with Sibelius. I feel like I've wasted a lot of money and many, many hours trying to get these two products to operate together.

I`ve just purchased GPO4 as an upgrade to the Sibelius edition (it was at an excellent price) and I find that with Sib 5.2.5, it won`t work. All I can do now is wait for Sib 7 to arrive.
Yes, I too do wish the software companies could think a little more of their customers. But all in all, it`s just got to be some sort of `corporate regulation` at best, a `con` at worst, as I now have to wait till 7 comes along.

Malcolm: I'm very sorry for the inconvenience caused by us not having a sound set ready yet. We are working on it, but there are many hundreds of sounds in the new World Music library and it takes a while to get all of the sound IDs set up correctly.

Anthony: you can use GPO4 in Sibelius 5 if you manually set up all the sounds via a manual sound set, but it's a lot of extra work. We do try to make it clear that GPO4 requires Sibelius 6 (e.g. right up-front on this page, http://www.sibelius.com/products/sibelius_sounds/index.html, and in the Computer Requirements box in bold text on the right-hand side of this page: http://www.sibelius.com/products/sibelius_sounds/personal_orchestra.html, and on the page on our online store). You don't have to wait for Sibelius 7, of course: you can upgrade to Sibelius 6 at any time.

The instruments will work with Sib 6.2 wih a certain amount of Bodging.
First make an instance of Aria player that is seperate to the one being used for GPO4 in the playback window.
Open up your score with the mixer panel displayed too.
Then for any world instruments you want to use, select Aria Player2 or what ever the instance is called, then open up this Aria player using the button to the right of the Aria player in the mixer for this instrument.
Go to the first instrument position in the open Aria player click on it and load world instruments, standard, followed by the continent and instrument that you want.
Check the setting is activated by using the sibelius mixer instrument test button. (Sometimes you need to enter this info twice before it registers). Also check the options in the box at the bottom left of Aria Player to the right of the mod wheel to make sure this is set correctly.
For instance the default setting for mandolin appears to be single notes which sound like they have a lot of Portanmento on them. Changing this to Triplet 1/8 notes sounds better for most applications.
Also if the instrument you have selected is diplaying an area of key pad not covered by the stave you have selected you won't get any sound.
Alter your stave type to allow selection of the notes. For instanec a rainstick when selected in Aria player has a set of Pour positions which are allocated to notes from C to A starting below the Bass cleff (Notes appear in white not grey). So using a Bass clef for the rainstick with one of the white notes for this will allow the appropriate Pour sound to be selected on that channel.

The pain is that until our friends at Sibelius write the appropriate code you need to do this at the start of each editing session.
Anyway as initially I only need a few sounds other than GPO4 ones this workaround will suffice.

this works swell, and if you use the Ensemble creation tool in Aria Player, all you need to do after you open Sibelius/Mixer/Aria player is to drag and drop or select that Ensemble from the Aria Player Ensemble drop down and voila, you custom instruments are loaded into Sibelius.
