Sib. 6.2: playback time
Posted by Thomas McElroy - 25 Aug 05:58PM
on playback there is a slider that you can move from left to right to increase the speed of the music. when I slide I start at 88 bpm and go to 100. I want some granularity in there. I looked in the handbook and reference and did not find a way to get anything between 88 and 100. There has to be a way...

anyone had this issue or know how to solve this?

thanx

Hi Thomas,

The advice I've seen given on this forum is that the slider is best used for a quick indication and testing of tempos (to yourself of course).

For setting tempos in the Sibelius score try inserting a Tempo Mark, or Metronome Mark. (and avoid using the slider for this).

Right Clicking, on the flashing insert cursor will bring up a context menu allowing you to select note values.

Select one and then follow with: = 91 (so it reads like: Quarter note = 91) Also any number works here, and I believe it can even be incremented into the decimal places so something like 91.5 is possible (If I remember right; I haven't used that myself yet).

They're also written about in the Users Reference Manual.

Take Care,

Jim

---

* Make sure you center the slider on the bar or it will throw off the tempo marks you set (it has a snap to middle feel, so this isn't hard to do).

** In a similar fashion to the tempo marks available. Sibelius also allows for dynamic marks to be used. So if you haven't started using those I think you'll be pretty happy to know they're available as well.

*** You're not limited to only one tempo mark. You can add as many as you like - they can be Hidden so they don't clutter up your score if desired.

Don't worry over the slider. It's just a quick-and-dirty way of
playing through a score faster (or slower) while checking notes. The
setting isn't saved in the score, and isn't used by Export Audio.

For precise tempo settings, use metronome text in the score.
