Sib. 6.2: move/re-write a note from one clef to another
Posted by Diane D. Caruso - 24 Jul 03:58PM
Is there any way to move a note from one clef to another without having to delete the note in the old clef and re-enter it in the new? For example, an A one ledger line below middle C in the treble clef - is there one keystroke or command that would move it to bass clef top line? Right now, in cleaning up a midi-imported score that has a lot of this, I have to delete every ledger line note that I want to move, and re-enter them in the bass clef. This is annoying and time consuming.

Presumably you mean particularly in the case of moving notes from the left hand piano stave to the right hand and vice versa? If you select a note or group of notes and press ctrl+shift+up or ctrl+shift+down you can move those notes up or down a staff. The menu option is Notes>Cross-Staff Notes>Move Up/Down a Staff. It's not quite the same as actually physically moving the notes though, because the program still treats the notes as if they 'belong' to their original staff, in relation to the notes and rests around them.

Thanks, I'll give it a try, and see if that does what I'm thinking of. I couldn't seem to find it intuitively on the menu or on the article help pages.

Hi there

There's also Plugins>Simplify Notation>Change Split Point.

Hope that helps

Ah - it moves the whole chord, not the selected note I want to separate from the rest and move to its proper clef. Is there anything else to try?

The change split point plug in worked the way I wanted - thanks very much!

I'm having trouble getting ctrl+shift+down to work. See the attached single bar -- I want to move the bottom note of each of these quarter-note entries to the bass clef below. I assume that by "ctrl" you mean the "cmd" key on my Mac. In beat one, I selected the bottom "F" and tried cmd+shift+the down arrow to the right of the standard keyboard (see photo). Any help appreciated.

What happened when you tried?

There was no picture of the music you were trying to work on.

Looks like you read it just before I realized I'd neglected to attach the .sib file -- sorry about that!
Absolutely nothing happened when I selected then cmd-shift-downed ANY note in that bar. Thanks -- Alan
