Hello,

I'd like to know the real way of doing this. I'd also like to know how to do a short measure at the end that repeats the pickup measure at the beginning.

The simplest way to create a pick-up bar is to do it when creating your time signature: the option's right there in Create > Time Signature. You can look this up under 'Pick-up (upbeat) bars' in Help > Sibelius Reference.

To make a shorter bar at the end of the score, use Create > Bar > Other. See 'Bars and bar rests' in Help > Sibelius Reference for more information about irregular bars.

Use (1st pic) when you start a piece or (2nd pic) if you have already started.

There is a fairly simple method if you don't have the plug-in installed.
Select all (ctrl/a) and Copy (ctrl/c). Select bar 2 and Paste (ctrl/v). Delete contents of bar 1. Place a quarter rest in bar 1. Ctrl-select the 2nd quarter rest in bar 1 and delete. Delete the time sig in bar 2 and answer "No" to the resulting warning. System select bar 2 and delete all attached texts.

Hmmm. Maybe the plugin is less daunting ;-) If you get in a mess, Undo (ctrl/z). 'Add Pickup Bar' plugin is listed under composing tools.

If you are using a current version of Sibelius Ultimate, you can just add an irregular bar to the start of the score, and it will handle the problems of moving system data attached to the previous first bar correctly, which saves a ton of problems, especially in parts.

Personally, I still use the Add Pickup Bar plugin for adding an entirely new bar, and I use Resize Bar to shrink an existing bar. Both plugins ship with Sibelius since, I think, around Sibelius 6.

Resize bar will also shrink the final bar if you want to match a pickup bar.
