Sib. 5.2: Inserting cymbal rolls
Posted by mentalsanityoff - 08 Apr 03:14AM
I can't seem to figure out how to insert cymbal rolls using a single-line cymbal instrument (select Instruments -> Orchestral Instruments -> Percussion and Drums -> Cymbals). What I get are a pair of crash cymbals, when what I really want is a single suspended cymbal to use for cymbal swells.

I created this 1-page instruction last summer. It may help you.
Attachment Suspended cymbal roll with soft mallet.sib (37K)

Terry,

I'm probably being obtuse, but I can't see how to make this work.

I can follow your instructions as far as "click on 'Choose sound'". Then I presumably have to choose "Sib Essentials". Then there are lots of choices, beginning with "General Midi drum set" and "GPO Basic Orchestral Percussion". Several of those have the “metal” option. But I can’t find anything under any of them which corresponds to your “cymbal” “suspended” “normal” .

What am I missing please?

Terry has 'Display' set to 'Sound IDs' on the Playback page of
Preferences, and you have it set to 'Program names' (which is the
default as of Sibelius 5.2 or later).

You should make sure that you only choose a percussion sound from within
the same patch (e.g. 'GPO Basic Orchestral Percussion') as is being used
to play the rest of the sounds on that staff, because Sibelius can only
use a single patch to play an individual percussion instrument.

Thank you, Daniel. I had forgotten all about that particular option.
