Sib. 5.2: how do i make fermata sounds fermata
Posted by citynoah - 22 Mar 03:17AM
I can't make my fermata work --
when i put a fermata signs on a notes,
it does not seems to make notes longer, no playback.

Any where can I ajdust the lengths of the fermata,
and if yes, do i only get one kind of fermata within a piece,
or i can have set up a few various lengths?

In the keypad, in Sibelius, we have 3 different kinds of fermata, what the differences in their definition as far as their lengths of degrees?

I have never run into this situation, but I can see the fermata does not work because it is in the middle of a ritardando.

I suggest you end your ritardando before the fermata and begin another ritardando after the fermata. If I were the musician trying to read the music, it would be less confusing for me to see a broken rit line than to see a fermata within a continuous line.

You can adjust the length of the fermata in the articulations tab of the playback dictionary. There is a long fermata and a short fermata in addition to just a regular fermata.

If you want more adjustments than those three, you must insert a symbol (non-playing) fermata and adjust the tempo to slow down for that one note and then increase again after the paused note.

If you are making fermata in Symbols (Z) they don't work. They are only pictures. Use Keypad.

thank!

i always pick the fermata signs from the Keypad.

I also found from the Sibelius 5 Reference book page 57 about the
definitions of unusual femata marks of
Medium pause (square) and
short pause (pointed one)

can anyone please tell me, compare to the regular femata mark (round one),
is the regular one LONGEST compare to above 2 unusual femata marks?

You can test this yourself, of course, but placing them in a test score. Also position pointer over each of the three fermatas in the on-screen keypad. And you can look at the tempos in the Playhback window when each type of fermata is played.

Also you can see exactly what they are by looking in the playback dictionary. You can see how long each one is. See my post above.
