I plan to test it in the W7 beta 64 bit version (presumably in an emulation mode or Virtual PC again, as Sib is still a 32-bit only application) later this month, on receipt of one of the new Dell XPS Studio i7 processor machines. Re: Sib. 5.0: Sibelius 5 and Windows 7 beta Posted by Matt Oglesby - 13 Jan 05:22PM Hide picture Thanks JQ Daniel, I have found some issues after trying the software: Installed using standard win7 mode (not vista compat) and seemed to install fine; Tried to install latest update, but failed; Program launch in win7 mode showed empty window with windows "?" help sign in top left; Subsequent program launches have produced a "...has stopped working" dialogue box; Program launch in vista compat mode and XP compat mode shows all text characters on top of eachother. I don't recall any issues as of yet. I wouldn't bother with the Beta of Windows 7 which I am sure will change drastically in the end. There are literally thousands of folks testing it at present and I would, as a former beta tester, urge you to send the problem to Microsoft so the release works well. They WILL work on it. My hat is off to anyone who participates to the beta testing to make our products better though. My beta testing days are so over. Not so fondly remembering beta testing "chicago" (code name for some beta version of windows, years ago). Beta is considered a dirty word in this household roughly translated meaning unreleased, unsupported, premature, still in the testing and debugging faze. Back to top | All threads

Check your device manager, do you have any hardware not working? Look for little yellow triangles with an exclamation point in them. It could be some flaky driver or something. This wasn't a Sibelius problem but a microsoft one - a damaged registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Installer\Products\Sibelius 5. All ok now. Sibelius doesn't seem to have that download posted anymore. You may have to request a new DVD. Well yes, Sibelius has said you can't do this on Windows. When 5.1 came out is was mandatory to uninstall 5.0 first. 5.1 could be updated to 5.2, but 5.0 can't be updated at all. Hardware is AMD 64 X2 box with 4GB of ram. Sibelius 5.2 from DVD installs without a problem, and then the 5.2.5 updater ran with no issues. I'm using an Audiophile 2496 card with the Vista 64bit drivers (had to right click on the m-audio driver .exe and change to compatibility:Vista). Performance with Sibelius is quite good! No issues at all. USB midi keyboard (prokeys88) works, plug in play as expected. Hope this helps, Back to top | All threads
