I know how to hide empty staves, but is there some way that I can hide staves *with* music in them?
Why?
Well, let's say I have a staff for a GPO French Horn, and then another one for the times I want to double the line in order to use the GPO French Horn ff overlay. Since I can't have more than one instrument on a staff, this is obviously the only way to accomplish my goal.
But of course, I don't want to print this second staff with my score, so thus my question of how to hide staves *with* music on them.
You can use the Focus on Staves feature in the view menu. Simply select the staves you want visible, then View/Focus on staves.
Another way is that you can create a new part with all the staves you want visible for printing purposes. Open the Parts Window either by clicking the Parts button on the Tool Bar or by going to Window/Parts. On the Window, there is a white paper icon for creating a new part. Click that, then in the window that pops up, select the instruments you want to include and press OK.

...or you can select the part you want to hide (triple-click), and then Hide everything (Edit>Hide or Show>Hide). Now choose Layout>Hide Empty Staves and it should disappear from the score.

For clarity: Focus on Staves was introduced in Sibelius 3, but the ability to use Hide Empty Staves on staves with all hidden objects is indeed new in Sibelius 5.

I too want this stage hide, but I want it for a different reason. I play with a group that do outdoor night gigs and our music ever is printed a standard paper.
Our music is in music notation with:
-Chords
-Staff/notation
-Lyrics
I want to hide just the staff only and increase the size of the chords and lyric height
Have a look at this downloadable plugin in category Layout
Hide Staves and Music
For use with Sibelius 6, Sibelius 7.1 and Sibelius 7.5
Hides the staves for all selected bars in a passage selection by creating an instrument change to Hidden no lines. It can also hide staff objects. By default it will hide the music in the staff (notes, rests, bar rests, tuplets, slurs, trills, and arpeggio lines), while leaving other text visible.
The plugin allows text attached to a staff to be visible while the staff itself is hidden, allowing the text to retain the spacing of the attached notes. It can be useful for tonic-sol-fa notation, or solfege, or for showing chord symbols and lyrics without notes.

This is fantastic! Been looking for this for a while now. NOW... How about hiding staves that have music in them, but only showing the measures with music. i.e. I have piano/vocal arrangements, but would like to minimize the "two bars per page syndrome" by only having the solo line and the piano score show until the SATB kicks in and then hide the SATB again when it's just solo, and so on.
@Jon Sterling - this is what Hide Empty Staves is for. You just have to be canny where you place your system breaks. It will hide any stretches of staves with nothing in them, that are the width of a system.
