Sib. 5.1: Tempo Playback Changes
Posted by Andrew P Taurisano - 14 Apr 05:35PM
My Apologies ladies and gentlemen for wasting your time with what would seem to be a simple question but I am stumped. I would like to set the tempo of a piece I am writing to 90 BPM but changing the tempo using the slider only allows me 88 BPM, and then it immediately jumps to 100. Is there anyway to set the tempo manually without using the slider? Is it possible to set playback to a tempo like 90.389 BPM? Any help is appreciated.

The slider is merely a temporary playback tweaker. Set the real tempo
using Metronome Mark text.

Create > Text > Metronome Mark

Right click (control click) in the text box that comes up to show the note values.

And if you add a metronome mark, be sure to return the slider to the central position, so the display matches the mm text.

I don't get it. "Create > Text > Metronome Mark" Then what? I want my piece to be exactly 124 BPM. Selecting allegro or moderato doesn't do this: these are pre-set tempos. How do I get the tempo exactly how I want? Why is this so hard? lol

Once you have a flashing cursor for metronome mark text input, type
Ctrl+4 (or Command-4 on Mac) to input a quarter note (crotchet), then
hit Space, then type the equals sign (=), then Space again, then 124.

Another method using Plug-ins>Composing Tools> fit selection to time.
This places a tempo marker at the beginning of the score which can be changed to 124. I found this easier, being a drop down menue item, being too lazy to memorize all the keyboard commands.

Thank you Daniel.

Part of my problem is that the Sibelius "F1 Help" is in PDF format which in my opinion is terrible to search for questions like - setting the tempo. Sibelius would be better off if it used a CHM format or something that searches more like a internet search engine.

Thanks again.

I have a similar problem and hope someone can help.
There are several tempos within my piece, but the playback (Sib. First 7) continues to play only in the first tempo...what do I need to do to make these changes register in the playback?
Thanks,
~joi

Create Metronome Marks with the new tempo at the appropriate locations.

Wow - the original question is from 2008. Some things never change.
