OK so I have a vocal part with long sections to be sung sprechgesang (aka sprechstimme). The conventional symbol for this is an X through the stem of each note.
Sibelius handily provides a symbol for this technique, which is great, BUT -
Does anyone know how - or even if it's possible - to select a passage of many notes, and then apply the sprechgesang symbol to all the stems in the passage?
(To insert the symbol each time and then move it into place is extremely laborious... plus the symbol can move about if the layout changes...)
Presuming you don't need the buzz roll symbol (6 on the tremolos keypad layout) you could edit the z symbol in Edit Symbols and substitute the correct sprechgesang x for it. Then, although the z will still appear on the keypad layout in the corner, typing it will add the x instead. You can do this to a multiple selection, and it stays on the stem when you transpose/edit notes etc.
I've not done this in 5.x but I'm pretty sure it's the same...

Will there be a possibility to do so - i.e. to add a symbol to several notes with one operation - in a future version? Maybe it's on THE LIST already?

You already can - Sibelius calls them called "articulations" :-)
But that doesn't solve every problem. You can customize articulations (above/below noteheads) and tremelos etc (on stems), but there are only a finite number of each available. And it would be nice if the keypad display also customized itself, to remind you what you did when you go back to work on an old score.
Hello,
I have recently installed Sibelius First, and for some reason this new version of Sibelius does not have The Sprechgesang / sprechstimme symbol in the store of symbols.
Could someone help me by sending me a short template of Sprechstimme so I can simply copy/paste the symbol into my score?
An attachment in this thread would be the best.
Regards
Boris
Please say exactly which version number of "Sibelius First" you are using.

Normally, one indicates this by using an X notehead, rather than a Symbol. If you are looking for something else, please direct us to a visual example of the Symbol that you are looking for.

Hi
Thank you for your message
I am using Sibelius First.
Yes, I was definitely looking for an X notehead but it can't be found here, as compared to other versions of Sibelius.
That's why I asked if someone could have attached a .sib file with a short passage with this "symbol" so I could copy/paste it.
Also Sibelius First does not have symbols of short and long fermata, just the middle one. I found a .sib file online with the short fermata in it, because I needed it for my Prelude, and copy/pate worked successfully.
> I am looking for the notes with crossed stems. See the attachment
Sibelius has a Symbol for the crossed stem. It will need careful positioning to exactly overlay the existing stem. You will need to disable Magnetic Layout for that Symbol.

The symbol is called Crossed stem, and is found (in full Sibelius) in the Techniques category of the Symbols dropdown menu.
It can also be added by typing Crossed stem into the 'Find in Ribbon' box on the Ribbon.
If it's not there for you, then perhaps you can do this:
• make a text object (eg Ctrl-T for Technique text) and type ç (lower-case c with cedilla)
• select it and change the font to Opus Special Std, and change the size to (for a 7.0mm stave size) 19.8pt. Adjust the size proportionally if your stave size is different.
Hope that's useful

Sibelius Ultimate on a Mac running OS 10.13.4
I have eventually got the Sibelius Ultimate and still can't find that symbol. I've found a cross stem symbol but was puzzled because that was headless, just the stem.
Could you explain me how to get the whole thing please?
You have found the correct Symbol. Make your notes as normal music, then position the crossed-stem symbol exactly on top of each stem. You will need to right-click the symbol and select Magnetic Layout -> Off in the symbol's context menu, in order to position it exactly.
