Tempo change
Posted by Robert L. McAdam - 19 Feb 10:55PM
I currently have a piece marked "Andante 70." I want to change the tempo to "Andante 80." Backspacing the 70 and inserting 80 does not work. What is the correct procedure.
Thank you.

Hi there

This works for me: if I double-click on the tempo marking to edit it, the cursor is positioned at the right end of the text, and I can edit as you describe.

What about it doesn't work?

I assume that your tempo marking actually shows "Andante q = 70" where the 'q' stands for a quarter note (crotchet). If you have exactly "Andante 70" in the tempo marking, Sibelius only reads the 'Andante' part for tempo, and changing the number won't do anything.

Hope that helps. Repost if not...

Thanks Jeremy
Your assumption is correct.....if I backspace "Andante q = 70 and insert 80 it actually registers 91 in the playback window (the one that registers progress of the piece)

Did you move the tempo slider to determine the desired tempo? If so, you need to move it back to the middle.

Thank you Martin, you hit the nail on the head. I took the added precaution of saving, shutting down and reopening and bingo. Thanks to you both, this has been an on-going problem for me. Now all I have to do is change the tempo on the posted manuscript, without having go through approval again.
