(Sam) New update to Application Manager for Windows and Mac Posted by Sam at Sibelius - 19 Aug 04:26PM (edited 31 Aug 05:36PM) Hide picture Hi All, Yesterday, we released a new upgrade to Application Manager that includes some useful new features: Auto-install - This feature allows users to have Sibelius, Pro-Tools and Media Composer installed in the background. It still requires you to start the installation process, but once it starts, it runs without the installer window or repeated prompts for credentials. This is often called "silent install". Auto-Update - This feature allows software (once approved by you) to be automatically updated when new updates are available. For further details, and to toggle these features on/off, see the Application Manager 2.5.8 readme. There have also been improvements to the reliability of Application Manager in general, especially around signing in. If you have any difficulty signing in, please get in touch with Support and they'll get you up and running. (Please note, there's a known issue in this area on macOS Sierra that we plan to address in a future update) Application Manager is recommended for everyone running Sibelius 8. To update, simply open Application Manager, go to the Apps page and click Update. So I couldn't update AppMan from the Apps page in AppMan because it wouldn't let me in. OTOH AppMan was functioning OK on my SurfacePro... Nothing else in my desktop setup had changed. Checked through all firewall settings & AppMan was definitely allowed, as it always was. Rebooting made no difference. (sigh) This is a real bore & such a waste of time... Eventually downloaded latest AppMan installer from Avid website & re-installed. After a couple of re-boots everything seems to be working. But couple of hours wasted when I really needed to be doing other stuff. Is this new version going to be more stable? Update done, everything went well. Afterwards, Application Manager kept activating about every fifteen minutes, (as many as nine icons popping up), trying to initialize and not doing it. Simply wouldn't stop. No changes to firewalls nor anti-virus. To stop this annoyance, I tried a repair. Wouldn't work,(just hung). I removed Avid Application Manager, defragged my Registry, restarted, and made certain that it was gone. Gone. I re-installed it. It continued to go bonkers, (wouldn't initialize and kept opening up another window). I tried a repair. It settled down. Now, according the Avid Application Manager, I don't have any products... No, wait, I do have Sibelius 8.4.1.111 which needs to be updated. Hold on, I updated that before this nonsense began; in fact, it was after that update when all of this nonsense began. I am certainly not impressed with Avid's Application Manager. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I really like Sibelius 6, and I think Sibelius 7 was a step backwards; but, really, Sibelius 8 and this Application Manager, (for someone with a permanent license), are a real pain. I am interested in editing old music, making new arrangements, and printing the music so that others can enjoy it. Instead, I have an Application Manager popping up on my screen every five minutes, (now); it won't initialize; and, it won't update my program. Upgrading to Sibelius 8 was worse than I'd ever dream an excellent music notation program could get! Back to top | All threads

Re: New update to Application Manager for Windows and Mac Posted by Scott Foster - 07 Sep 08:24AM Hide picture Greetings, I uninstalled the Application Manager 2.5.8, (which wouldn't initilize and was repeatedly attempting to notify me of updates, as many as sixteen times). Installing the previous version 2.5.7 brought things back to normal. It initialized and allowed me to update Sibelius to 8.4.2.231 without any problem. However, the update for Sibelius also updates the Application Manager to 2.5.8; so, I was again getting repeated attempts to initialize. Again, I uninstalled the version 2.5.8 and re-installed version 2.5.7. The update of Sibelius appears uneffected and shows as "Current" on the Application Manager. The only glitches might be that the Application Manager constantly searches for a subscription, (when I have a permanent license), and indicates an update for version 2.5.8 of the Application Manager, (which has been my main problem). I've cleaned the "Cache" and can Close the Application Manager, (without its popping up again and again). Thus, if one updates Sibelius to 8.4.2.231, one may want to uninstall the Application Manager 2.5.8, and re-install the 2.5.7 version. Sincerely, Scott Foster Back to top | All threads

It seems OK for me although one of the menu items isn’t there anymore. It still has “Account”, “Apps”, & “Licensing” but one menu item is now missing (I think it was “Support”). Apparently it contains bug fixes stability improvements and a new Help Menu. Now who wouldn't want that? Due to this AM disables itself later. I'm monitoring this problem since weeks now ... without any progress and updates/bugfixes from Avid. Need finally a solution for this bug. Sierra is still in beta and is not yet supported although Sibelius should be fine. I'm working on this issue with Apple as we speak to get to the bottom of it. As a work around, you may log into your Avid Account at https://my.avid.com to retrieve any downloads you might need, and your activation and system IDs which you may then use to activate Sibelius and other Avid software from within Application Manager. Indeed. Anyone who is unfortunate enough to buy a new computer the same week a new os is released is going to expect problems. Which is no reason for an existing user to go LOOKING for problems! I think - since the release of the GM - the beta phase of Sierra ended ... and a bugfix should be available either from Avid or Apple ... although I see the main responsibility at Avid. Why? In my opinion the AM is very bad designed - the whole concept is far away from "customer-friendly". So please push the development of a bugfix to solve these issues - especially because the AM seems to be an annoying tick ... meanwhile impossible to get rid of the autostart sequence. Re: New update to Application Manager for Windows and Mac Posted by Joe @ Sibelius - 16 Sep 08:25PM Hide picture Hi folks, We've just implemented a fix for the issue that prevented Application Manager from displaying its login screen on Sierra, so you should now be able to launch AppMan, log in, download and maintain your Avid software as usual. I'm now working with the AppMan team to get their official stamp of approval for Sierra. In terms of Sibelius itself, we did discover an issue with our video feature, and provided a fix in Sibelius 8.4.2 ready for the Sierra release. Since then I'm happy to report we've found no new issues. I don't think it wouldn't be fair for us to claim full Sierra support until we've made sure that AppMan is also functioning correctly - more news on that when I have it.
